The Los Angeles Police Retirement Benefit and Insurance Association, Inc. (RB&I) is a separate corporation providing additional life insurance benefits for its members and their families.
Recruits employed by the City of Los Angeles to become sworn
police officers in the Los Angeles Police Department, or an
active member of the Los Angeles Police Department regularly
appointed and sworn in are eligible to apply for membership in
the Los Angeles Police Retirement Benefit and Insurance
Association, Inc.

A cash surrender benefit in the amount of $4,000 is available to an active participant who has been a member for 25 or more years. Retired members are also eligible for the cash surrender benefit based on the following schedule:
