LAPRA - Life Insurance

As a fundamental element of any benefits package, group Life insurance helps protect you and your loved ones from financial hardships related to an untimely death. That’s why the Los Angeles Police Relief Association (LAPRA) has contracted with UnitedHealthcare, to provide our Basic and Additional Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. When caused as a result of a covered accident, AD&D Insurance doubles your coverage and also pays benefits in the event of loss of a limb or sight.

LAPRA provides active LAPRA Members and Recruits who are enrolled to become LAPRA Members with $15,000 of Basic Life and $15,000 of Basic AD&D coverage AT NO COST TO YOU. In addition, you may enroll for the Additional Life and AD&D Insurance.

You are eligible to enroll if you are an active LAPRA Member or enrolled to become an active LAPRA Member.

If you were enrolled for Additional Life and AD&D insurance as an active Member, you may continue your coverage into retirement. Upon retirement, Additional Life and AD&D coverage levels will vary depending upon your age and the plan you were enrolled in as an active Member. Please refer to the benefits schedule below.

What happens if I don’t enroll for Additional Life and AD&D when I’m first eligible or if I elect to increase my coverage amount at a later date?

If you don’t enroll for Additional Life and AD&D insurance within 31 days of first being eligible, or if you elect to increase your coverage amount at a later date, you will be required to complete an Evidence of Insurability form. Your coverage will not be effective unless approved, in writing, by UnitedHealthcare.
