Who can join?
Sworn members of the LAPD as defined in the Charter of the City of Los Angeles are welcome to join the Los Angeles Police Relief Association, Inc.

Why join?
LAPRA provides a wide selection of outstanding benefits for its members and additional support in times of need and crisis.

How can I join?
An application should be filed upon your initial hiring as a police officer by the City of Los Angeles. You can download an application to join LAPRA here. Your membership becomes effective on the date this application is accepted by the Board of Directors, provided an authorization to deduct Association dues from your regular City payroll check has been received.

Benefits for active members

Death Benefits: $10,000.00 death benefits payable to your designated beneficiary upon your death.

Emergency Relief: Limited emergency relief is available to members in times of great need and distress or family crisis.

When an Active member has been a member in good standing with LAPRA for an aggregate period of twenty-five (25) years, his or her membership and death benefit certificate shall be fully paid up and he or she shall not thereafter be liable for payment of any further dues.

Benefits for retired members

Whenever an active member in good standing of LAPRA retires from the Police Department on a pension from the City of Los Angeles, such member shall be classified as a "Retired Member" and shall be elegible for a death benefit certificate for the sum of $6,000.00
